Volunteer Clasp for Swedish volunteers in the Finnish Continuation War 1941-44

Frivilligspännet för svenska frivilliga i Finska Fortsättningskriget 1941-44

From the start it was probably intented that all swedish volunteers would recieve this clasp. Actually, the first volunteers that were  awarded with this clasp were instead those that had served at the Hangö-frontier in 1941. This is probably why the clasp is also at times aptly labelled the "Hangöspännet"  (the Hangö-clasp). The soldiers that served at the Svir-frontier, and thereafter at the Karelian isthmus 1944, were awarded with this particular clasp, likewise the swedes that served in finnish units were also given the clasp for their efforts.

According to sources, it was first estimated that approximately 10,000 clasps would have to be ordered, but since it was only the soldiers that fought in the Finnish Continuation War that recieved the clasp, that estimated number  was significantly decreased. The actual number of clasps manufactured is somewhere around 1000.

The clasp of the volunteer is manufactured from copper and measures 82 mm in lenght and breadth, and 28 mm vertically in height.  Manufactured and produced by Sporrong & Co in Stockholm.
